Steps towards a Network of International Youth Work Trainers
Seminar
Hungary 16-20 October, 2014
Call for participants

Why this seminar?
Trainers in the youth field involved in non-formal education do not have a well established, large  scale international network at the moment. Though in the last decades more and more people have been involved in this line of work in European and non-European countries, collaboration and networkingis happening rather on a case-by-case basis, and not so much in a structured way. We feel the need of developing a structure to connect the persons working in this field, to identify the achievements of the past decades and to develop quality standards for the future. There is a need to share, to represent the sector and to address issues regarding non-formal education and training for young people on an international level. This need has been articulated on various previous occasions.
This project is a continuation of the initiative taken at the Working with trainers III meeting in Sofia (September 2013), and a follow-up step after the resulting Partnership-building activity (PBA) that took part in Ireland in 10-15 March 2014 (a comprehensive narrative report including the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the meeting can be sent upon request).
At the PBA in Ireland 28 trainers discussed about the need and possible forms of networking. The outcomes were communicated to a greater number of trainers with the help of a blog  (http://iywtgroup.wordpress.com) and a Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/649891225069091/?fref=ts). The meeting in Ireland and the online discussions reflect the interest and motivation of trainers to organise themselves. The on-line survey conducted among youth trainers active on the international level (the International Youth Work Trainers Initial Questionnaire)
was filled by 50 trainers; the Facebookgroup has more than 400 members.
The present seminar wishes to continue the work started on these forums and to consolidate the international network of trainers under construction.

What to expect from this meeting?
To address the above mentioned issues, the seminar “Steps towards a Network of International Youth Work Trainers” will take place between October 16 and 20, 2014 in Hungary.

The objectives of the seminar are:
  to establish solid, long-term, strategic partnership among trainers in the youth field on an international level
  to explore and discuss about trainer identity (what makes you a non-formal youth trainer?)
  to support the quality of international youth training by creating a virtual space for sharing, and facilitating the dialogue about quality in youth training and about trainer competences
  to create new partnerships and innovative projects, taking into account the economic and political context of different countries
  to discover the changes and the opportunities inherent the new Erasmus + program from the trainers’ point of view.
The methodology used at the seminar will be non-formal, with a focus on shared group responsibility. An external facilitator will be involved.

For whom is this call? Who can participate?
The seminar will bring together 28 trainers active in the youth field and involved in non-formal education. Experience and networks of individual trainers/participants, as well as their devotion and willingness tocontribute to the development of the idea and its implementation will remain the main criteria taken into consideration while composing the group. The working language of the meeting will be English.

Application criteria:
  At least 3 years experience as a trainer in the youth field, on an international level
  Good command of English language
  Motivation and willingness to contributeto the development of the network
  Membership in and experience with other national/transnational trainers’groups can be a good resource.
Participants are expected tobe connected through the Trainers Platform on ning: http://trainerplatform.ning.com.
Selected participants must contribute to their travel costs according to the funding rules of the Erasmus plus programme and take care of their travel and health insurance. All other costs (food and accommodation during the seminar, training materials, visa) will be covered by the project budget.
We expect to have half of the group from the meeting in Ireland (to ensure transfer of the content and results from the meeting), and the other half of the group composed of new people joining the process. We believe such balance will bring the process ahead, shaping the foundation of the network.

How to apply?
In order to take part in the seminar we invite you to fill in the online application
form under the following link:  http://goo.gl/y1QMoF
The applications should be submitted no later than August 22nd, Friday.
